Days Gone: Sony is adapting the post-apocalyptic game with Outlander’s Sam Heughan looking to star

Get ready to siphon some gas from your local station and stock up on zombie-killing supplies because a Days Gone movie is hitting the open road. That’s right, gamers! Sony‘s post-apocalyptic tale of motorcycles and undead mayhem is getting adapted for the silver screen. Additionally, it looks as if Outlander‘s Sam Heughan is going donuts around the lead role.

Created by Bend Studio, Days Gone is an open-world action-adventure game set in a harsh wilderness two years after a devastating global pandemic. Players assume the role of Deacon St. John, a drifter and bounty hunter who rides the broken road, fighting to survive while searching for a reason to live. Featuring a harsh sandbox environment, brutal combat against undead hordes and humans alike, and plenty of open roads to explore, Days Gone has sold more than 9 million units since its launch on the Playstation 4 console.

According to Deadline, Oscar-nominated writer Sheldon Turner (X-Men: First ClassStrongerUp in the Air) is penning the screenplay. Whispers suggest Turner’s script will pay tribute to classic motorcycle movies, like The Wild One and Easy Rider.

In addition to playing Jamie Fraser in the television romance drama Outlander, Heughan played Ryan in the British TV series Suspect. Heughan recently completed work on the Jim Strouse-directed Text for You, starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Celia Imrie. Heughan’s other project, Everest, will be directed by Doug Liman and focuses on the British mountain climber, George Mallory, who makes multiple attempts to scale Mt. Everest throughout the 1920s.

Did you play Days Gone on the Playstation 4 console? I sank a few hours into it a few months after the game’s release. I enjoyed the world-building but found the controls and movement to be a bit floaty. Still, the premise for the story is solid, and there’s lots of room for innovation and exciting stories to unfold. I hope Turner takes full advantage of the Days Gone playground and delivers something worth revving up for in theaters.
