DC Universe’s Live-action Doom Patrol casts its Cyborg

While Ray Fisher portrayed the first live-action iteration of DC's Cyborg in last year's JUSTICE LEAGUE, the DC Universe streaming service has cast their own Cyborg for the live-action version of Doom Patrol. THE FIRST PURGE's Joivan Wade will play Victor Stone/Cyborg in the series, currently being written by Jeremy Carver. Based on the comic of the same name, the show centers on Cyborg, Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Woman, Crazy Jane and Dr. Niles Caulder, a band of "misfit" superheroes out to save the world, while dealing with their somewhat traumatic and strange lives.

The casting of Wade brings up an interesting question for the DCEU as a whole, seeing as we already have one Cyborg in continuity in the film universe. Best guess is that Wade's Cyborg will exist independent of that, much like the other CW series' like The Flash, Green Arrow, etc. If that's the case, then DC is continuing to build on both the TV and film universes, whereas its rival, Marvel, continues to build their TV franchises (Agents of SHIELD, Daredevil, The Punisher, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, etc.) into the broader cinematic universe. I guess there's no reason both can't exist independently, but I tend to like that they're all connected, if even just by a name drop here and there. On that note, the CYBORG movie that was to star Ray Fisher looks to have been axed, so who knows when or if he'll appear back in the DCEU anytime soon. It would also make sense that this version of Cyborg could potentially appear in DC Universe's Titans, seeing as he's also a member of that team.

Doom Patrol is being developed to debut on the DC Universe app, which will be available this fall (lots of details on that HERE) with Titans being their initial live-action show to debut there.
