Dead Day: Peacock orders Kevin Williamson series based on zombie comic book

Original Scream screenwriter Kevin Williamson was executive producer on the new sequel that’s in theatres now, and while that movie continues to rake in the cash Williamson has lined up another genre project – one that sees him re-teaming with his The Vampire Diaries co-creator Julie Plec. Williamson and Plec will serve as co-showrunners and writers on the zombie show Dead Day, which has just gotten a straight-to-series order from the Peacock streaming service.

Coming to us from Universal Television and Aftershock Media, Dead Day will follow

an ensemble of characters as they navigate the annual “dead day,” when for one night the dead come back to complete unfinished business — be that to celebrate a night back on earth or to torment the living.

The series is an adaptation of the Ryan Parrott comic book of the same name, which was first published by Aftershock Comics in 2020. The comic centers on

the Haskins, a seemingly normal suburban family as they prepare for the zombie debauchery

Plec will be executive producing Dead Day through her production company, which happens to be called My So-Called Company, while Williamson does the same through his company Outerbanks Entertainment. Ben Fast, Emily Cummins, Lee Kramer, and Aftershock Media’s Jon Kramer and David Sigurani are also on board as executive producers. Parrott is involved as consulting producer.

Lisa Katz of NBCUniversal Television and Streaming provided the following statement to Deadline:

Dead Day combines an exciting, high-concept premise with relatable characters and real emotion. We jumped at the opportunity to work with Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson, who not only have tremendous individual track records with their high-quality storytelling, but have created magic together before.”

Universal Television’s Vivian Cannon added:

Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson are each a powerhouse unto themselves, so we couldn’t have been more excited when they told us they wanted to team up again. Dead Day will be everything Julie and Kevin’s audiences love about their work – emotional, unexpected and totally bingeable.”

I haven’t read the comic book, but it sounds like the concept could make for an interesting TV show.
