If animated flicks that tie in with video games is your thing, then get ready to bust a nut all over this news! Variety is reporting that Starz Media is teaming up with Electronic Arts to bring an animated prequel to DEAD SPACE to life!
The feature is a prequel to the horror video game, and a sequel to the Image Comics comic book, all three are set to be released later this year. While not aiming to go theatrical with the animated feature, the plan is to release it on DVD through our genre-loving friends over at Anchor Bay! Cool beans!
If you’re wondering why DEAD SPACE, a video game that hasn’t even come out yet, is getting the comic to film to game treatment, here’s what Starz had to say: Due to the richness and complexity of stories that have evolved for videogames, they have become a type of entertainment that can span generations and provide fantastic inspiration for other forms of media, especially in the realm of animated features.
And there you have it. DEAD SPACE is about an ordinary man on a seemingly routine mission to fix the communications systems aboard a deep space mining ship who learns that the ship’s crew has been ravaged by a vicious alien infestation. He must fight through the dead silence and darkness of deep space to stay alive.
Sounds like fun to me! I can see this really working well as both an animated feature and a comic book–moody, action-packed, and in space! Almost like ALIEN, but on steroids! Sign me up! Stick around for more news on the feature, and get in the mood by checking out the game’s trailer below!
