Do you guys remember way back in September when I mentioned the pricey purchase of a horror script titled DEAD WHISPER written by Jennifer Buttell-Kersey? Well, it looks like whoever bought it is now beginning to get their money’s worth. It already scored a seasoned director with Oley Sassone at the helm. Now it appears that hottie Dominique Swain (DEAD MARY, FACE/OFF) and Frances Fisher (UNFORGIVEN) are attached to star.
I’m really starting to think that WHISPER has the capacity to make some serious noise in the genre. Listen to a fairly detailed version of the plot: It’s about a woman plagued by ghostly voices and bad dreams who winds up in a psychiatric hospital. Her nightmares only get worse, and she and her psychiatrist attempt to track their source to an abandoned house, where a frightening secret is revealed, leading to a shocking twist that audiences will not see coming!
Wow, I love twists, especially when they’re shocking! In all honesty, it would be nice to see another horror entry that truly delivers a helluva shock (like SAW). Director Sassone adds that “Horror/fantasy films are always fun to make. The world you create is totally your own. The script for DEAD WHISPER is intensely psychological, with an Escher-like structure of cleverly intertwined flashbacks and flash-forwards that will keep the audience on the edge of their seats. It’s an entertaining mind game of what’s real vs. what’s imagined, with enough horror and suspense for the hardcore fans.”
DEAD WHISPER is scheduled to begin shooting this January in New Orleans. Showcase Entertainment is handling the distribution. I’ll tell you more as I hear it.
