Deadpool 2 director David Leitch to helm Fast & Furious Hobbs and Shaw film

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines, and please put your hands together for the confirmation that ATOMIC BLONDE and DEADPOOL 2 director David Leitch has been crowned as the helmer of the Fast & Furious spinoff which is set to pair Dwayne Johnson with Jason Statham for more pedal-to-the-metal action. The announcement pulled up to the starting line via the franchises's official Twitter account, earlier today, after it was announced back in February that Leitch was in consideration for the job. The highly-anticipated spinoff will star Johnson's Diplomatic Security Service agent Luke Hobbs and Statham’s assassin Deckard Shaw, in an pulse-pounding thrillride written by long-time franchise collaborator Chris Morgan.

You can check out the announcement for yourself below:

David Leitch, who was the second unit director on such films as NINJA ASSASSIN, HITMAN: AGENT 47, and CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, made his directorial debut in the Summer of 2017 with the stylish JOHN WICK-style action thriller ATOMIC BLONDE starring Charlize Theron, James McAvoy, John Goodman, Sophia Boutella, and Bill Skarsgard. Now that Leitch is buckled up for the Fast & Furious spinoff, fans of both Hobbs and Shaw can undoubtedly look forward to the flick being an over-the-top romp, with plenty of high-octane stunts and set pieces that will likely prompt jaws to drop, once the film tears out of the gate.

The Fast & Furious spinoff, or as IMDB calls it, HOBBS AND SHAW, is scheduled to come barreling into theaters on July 26, 2019
