The moment many people have waited all day for is finally here! Marvel Studios is taking over Comic-Con’s Hall H to share more details about its upcoming projects, including updates on Avengers: Doomsday, Black Panther 3, and more.
While some say the Marvel Cinematic Universe feels more disjointed than ever, the studio aims to bring everyone together, literally, for Avengers: Doomsday, the event film introducing Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. Marvel dropped an intriguing trailer for Doomsday earlier this week, giving fans a taste of the madness to come. The promo features Thor (Chris Hemsworth) warning his fellow Avengers about a terrifying new threat, with everyone from Wakanda to esteemed members of the X-Men joining the epic battle to come.
Tonight’s Marvel Studios panel began with Marvel handing Dr. Doom masks and cloaks to the crowd, before H.E.R.B.I.E. from the Fantastic Four took the stage, waving to the crowd with his adorable robotic hand. After H.E.R.B.I.E.’s big entrance, Marvel boss Kevin Feige and Robert Downey Jr. took the stage and introduced more stars from the movie.
Ryan Reynolds showed up in the audience, dressed in a snazzy denim Deadpool costume, or “Canadian tuxedo,” to ask some questions. First, he wonders where Thor is and why he was crying in Deadpool & Wolverine. Paul Rudd responded, joking, “Maybe he’s a Wrexhem fan.“
Next, he asked when the film would start shooting, only to be told that it was already in the can. “I see…so, no additional photography?” However, co-director Anthony Russo said, “We keep making the movie until they pry it out of our hands.” So there’s hope for Deadpool in Avengers: Doomsday. Wink wink. Check out our video below!
More footage from the upcoming Marvel epic was also screened. We see Doom sitting on his throne as Sue Storm narrates. “He was always the smartest guy in every room,” she explains to a group of other Marvel heroes. “He used to be different. Used to be kind. Used to be caring. Everything he loved was taken from him. I knew he was lost, but I did not realize he was broken.“
We see a distressed Reed Richards standing amongst a destroyed city, asking Doom, “Did you do this?” with quick cuts of other characters. And more from Thor’s battle with Doom, which we saw in the trailer, where Doom easily blocks Stormbreaker and blasts Thor away.
The footage ends with Doom placing his hands on the ground and raising an army of Sentinels from the ground. Doesn’t look good for the Avengers.
Avengers: Doomsday comes to screens on December 18. A new poster was also released, featuring Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. See that below.
