With the positive reviews arriving left and right for DEADPOOL as well as an optimistic box-office prediction for the coming weekend, it's only natural that Fox is already getting the ball rolling for a DEADPOOL sequel. There's been talk of a sequel ever since the project became a reality, but both cast and crew were anxiously waiting to see just how the first film would be received before getting their hopes up. Just a few days before DEADPOOL will be released to the masses, THR reports that DEADPOOL screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are returning for the sequel.
Wanting to keep Deadpool's various eccentricities intact led to many stumbling blocks on the road to getting the film made, as it seemed unlikely that Fox would give a big budget to a film which would be filled with vulgarities, blood-letting, and fourth-wall breaking. Somehow, everything managed to fall into place and the Deadpool we always wanted is shaping up to be a big success for Fox. Tim Miller, director of DEADPOOL, hasn't signed on to direct the sequel as of yet, but THR's report claims that Fox is intent on keeping the creative team together. As to what we can expect from the sequel, it's no secret that both Tim Miller and Ryan Reynolds have promised that Cable will turn up to trade barbs with Deadpool.
A synopsis for DEADPOOL:
Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
