del Toro a Champion?

Guillermo del Toro has got to be one of the busiest directors out there. He’s currently busy working on HELLBOY 2: THE GOLDEN ARMY. Some other current projects include directing and/or producing AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS, SPLICE, 3993, and THE ORPHANAGE. Not to mention he’s expressed interest in doing a FRANKENSTEIN film and HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS.

So as you can see, the man has a lot on his plate! And according to The Hollywood Reporter, he’s just added another helping. del Toro has just signed on to write, direct, and produce THE CHAMPIONS, a film based on the science fiction TV series from England.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series, which aired 30 episodes between 1968 and 1969, was about the adventures of a trio of secret government agents whose lives were saved when their plane crashed in the Himalayas and they were rescued by an advanced civilization. The civilization also bestowed them with superhuman abilities.

Along with del Toro, Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner’s C/W Prods will also be producing. United Arts will be bringing it to the big screen. We’ll keep you updated on any news for THE CHAMPIONS or Guillermo del Toro.
