Here’s a little piece of film that I would love to get my greasy hands on… According to Comics2Film, director/screenwriter Hans Rodionoff (LOST BOYS 2, and the upcoming Arrow-scripted TRANCE) showed up at the H.P. Lovecraft festival in Portland with a surprise: a ten-minute reel of “test footage” for the “Lovecraftian” tale MNEMOVORE. It starred cutie-pie Kristen Bell (VERONICA MARS, HEROES) and Michael Biehn (you’d better know who he is).
Apparently the footage was helmed by Rodionoff – at executive producer Guillermo del Toro’s behest – to try and secure financing for a feature, as well as test his mettle.
‘Mnemovore’ tells the story of Kaley, a professional snow boarder who suffers a head injury that wipes out her memory. The accident sets her up in the unique position to battle a centuries-old Lovecraftian entity that feeds on the memories of mankind.
Bell (below) portrayed Kaley, and Biehn her therapist, in a sequence leading up to her first encounter with the memory-munching creature… No word if any extreme snow-boarding stock-footage was utilized.
The reel apparently went over very well, but Rodionoff explained that it wouldn’t ultimately be used in the finished product. Right now he’s working on TRANCE (again, props to the Arrow!) and hopes to have MNEMOVORE financing in place when that’s completed.
