UPDATE: According to BlackFilm, Gabrielle Union will NOT be in I AM LEGEND. In her place will be Alice Braga – whoever that is. So there you have it- Depp is OUT, Union is OUT, Braga is IN, and so is Salli Richardson. Also keep in mind that BlackFilm was the first to report that Depp was IN… so take it with a grain of salt…
A few months back (see story HERE) word was going around the campfire that Johnny “Don’t call me Pirate” Depp had been cast alongside Will “Willenium” Smith in the adaptation of Richard Matheson’s classic novel I AM LEGEND. Today IESB pooped on all of our hopes and dreams, and revealed that Depp will NOT be in the film.
Not only will he NOT be in the film, but he was NEVER in the film in the first place! Nothing was signed, no contracts were made… see, this is how rumors get started and spread. Damn it!
Depp’s reported character Philip, who was a fellow survivor to Smith, isn’t even in the script, let alone making it in the movie. A crying shame really. Even worse is that the film will most resemble THE OMEGA MAN take of the story versus the actual novel. It’s already been done before- why do it again??? I guess we’ll never know…
IESB also reports that hottie Gabrielle Union, best known for her recent yet short-lived stint on the underrated series NIGHT STALKER, has joined the cast- presumably as Smith’s love interest, but one can never tell. She could be a zombie or a mutated freak for all we know. One thing for sure is that Union here’s smokin’ hot, and that ain’t bad! Doesn’t solve the fact that Depp won’t be in it… but it helps.
