Down the Rabbit Hole: Kylie Cantrall, Malia Baker, and the cast of Descendants: Wicked Wonderland spill on the magical sequel

The fifth film in Disney‘s Descendants franchise, Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, is ready to take fans on a magical and musical adventure down the rabbit hole, and we’ve got several of the film’s stars here to celebrate the film’s anticipated launch! In Wicked Wonderland, Red (Kylie Cantrall) and Chloe Charming (Malia Baker) wake up in a world changed by time-altering shenanigans in 2024’s Descendants: Rise of Red. Before the alterations can change their fates for the worse forever, the duo teams up with other Descendants to reset the clock and save Wonderland from falling into ruin.

To celebrate the launch of Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, we spoke with Kylie Cantrall (Red) and Malia Baker (Chloe Charming) about their brilliant on-screen chemistry, their favorite aspects of being part of Disney’s Descendants franchise, and the new lessons they learned while working on the studio’s latest musical.

In addition to speaking with Cantrall and Baker, we discuss the wonders of Wonderland with Liamani Segura (Pink), Alexandro Byrd (Luis), and Kiara T. Romero (Hazel Hook), covering the film’s elaborate sets and whether they snagged something as a keepsake from the production. We also talk with Segura about playing an original character in the Descendants universe, and the pressures that come with that role. Finally, we discover which song or dance routine is the cast’s favorite.

Is Descendants: Wicked Wonderland good? You can read my full review here. Still, if you want a quick opinion, I said the sequel “is a fantastic follow-up to 2024’s Rise of Red and better than its predecessor in almost every way. The performances are more confident, the writing is more compelling, each character gets a moment or two, and the songs are funkier, better choreographed, and more visually appealing than before. After resisting the musical genre for most of my life, I happily admit that between Disney’s Zombies and Descendants films, I’m finding my own groove within the genre. I don’t think I’ll sign up for dance lessons anytime soon, but Wicked Wonderland is a fun way to expand classic universes for a safe, savvy, and swingin’ time while running rampant in fairy tale kingdoms.”

Descendants: Wicked Wonderland is out now on the Disney Channel and Disney+!
