Details and cover art for September’s King Kong Blu-ray release

About three weeks ago our man Jake told you about the upcoming Blu-ray treatment of the original 1933 KING KONG (read all about it HERE). At the time, we didn’t have much to tell you regarding details, and we certainly didn’t have any cover art to show you. Well that’s about to change!

Warner Bros. is busting out KING KONG on September 28, 2010, in an all-new Blu-ray Book Edition (where the packaging is much like a hard cover book), packed with the following extras:

  • Commentary by Visual Effects Veterans Ray Harryhausen and Ken Ralston with Interpolated Interview Excerpts of Merian C. Cooper and Fay Wray
  • I’m King Kong: The Exploits of Merian C. Cooper featurette
  • RKO Production 601: The Making of Kong, the Eighth Wonder of the World – 7-Part The Making of Kong Documentary
  • Original Creation Test Footage with Ray Harryhausen Commentary
  • The Lost Spider Pit Sequence
  • Theatrical Trailer
  • Booklet featuring production photos, notes, and a background of director Merian C. Cooper

Yep folks, an epic release for such an epic (and groundbreaking) film, one that’s sure to be even more epic with the power of Blu-ray behind it. You can check out the new cover art below and appreciate the fact that they took one of the original poster art for KING KONG and used it here–versus having their photoshop peeps slap something ‘hip’ together. Props on keeping it real, yo!

Get ready for the rise of KING KONG on Blu-ray September 28th, and do yourself a favor and PRE-ORDER THAT SHIT TODAY.

From Peter Jackson’s remake, Naomi Watts!
