Details on Mummy 3

Instead of going for hardcore horror when Stephen Sommers made THE MUMMY back in 1999, he went for more of the action-adventure route ala INDIANA JONES. Probably a smart move, as not only did it make an assload of money, but it spawned the equally fun THE MUMMY RETURNS. These flicks are cheese-ball popcorn goodness at its absolute finest…and now we have yet another MUMMY on the horizon to look forward, this time without Sommers on board. The third flick’s being written by Al Gough and Miles Millar (who created TV’s SMALLVILLE), with director Rob Cohen (xXx) at the helm. Today SciFi Wire had a chance to talk with Gough and Millar about the flick, in which they revealed a bit on what the third installment will be about.

We figured out a really good family story with Rick and Evie, and [their son] Alex is now grown up. So it’s really interesting. Yep, that’s right… the kid’s grown up, which should make Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz well into their 50s and 60s… maybe it’ll work better on screen than it actually sounds. Another cool aspect they’re working on is introducing a ‘new’ mummy to battle against the third time around, which is better than battling the Scorpion King or some other re-hashed villain we’ve seen before.
