Netflix renews its Devil May Cry animated series for a third and final season

Netflix is running out of chalk to draw its summoning circles as the streamer renews its Devil May Cry series for a third and final season. According to Adi Shankar, the showrunner of Devil May Cry, fans should have seen this announcement coming. In a statement to DMC fans, Shankar said, “For those of you who have been paying attention to the episode names, I have been showing you the structure the entire time,” he declared. “This was always Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’ with guns and a red coat. Season 1 was ‘Inferno.’ Season 2 was ‘Purgatorio.’ Season 3 will be ‘Paradiso.’ These three seasons make up ‘The Force Edge Saga.’ Since inception, ‘The Force Edge Saga’ was designed as a movie trilogy disguised as a television series.”

What’s Devil May Cry about?

Here’s the official logline for Devil May Cry:

“Sinister forces are at play to open the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon-hunter-for-hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck.”

Devil May Cry is an over-the-top franchise

Capcom debuted the first Devil May Cry video game in 2001 on the PlayStation 2. The game received critical acclaim, with gamers praising its cool characters, grand Gothic world, brutal, air-juggle-happy gameplay, and killer soundtrack. Capcom continues to nurture its Devil May Cry franchise with Netflix’s animated series, as well as new games that get more ridiculous with every entry. The latest game in the franchise, Devil May Cry 5, was released in 2019, and some gamers say it’s the most outrageous chapter of the DMC saga to date. Fun Fact: My friend Rachel Fannan sings on the song “Crimson Cloud” for DMC 5.

The cast of Netflix’s Devil May Cry series includes Johnny Yong Bosch as Dante, Robbie Daymond as Vergil, and Scout Taylor-Compton as Lady. Shankar serves as showrunner, with Studio Mir providing animation.

Are you a fan of Netflix’s Devil May Cry? What other games do you think deserve an animated adaptation? I’d love an animated series of Fear Effect, Parasite Eve, Catherine, or Hitman. Let us know which video game adaptations you’d like to see in the comments section below.
