Dexter revival: Michael Cyril Creighton joins cast, filming begins soon

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Eight years after the initial run of the Showtime television series Dexter came to an end (those eight seasons can be purchased at THIS LINK), Michael C. Hall will be returning as Dexter in a new limited series revival of the show – and filming begins in Massachusetts next month! As the first day of filming swiftly approaches, we've learned about several of the characters that Dexter will be sharing the screen with in the new season, and the names of the actors who will be playing them. The latest name to add to that list: Michael Cyril Creighton.

Set 10 years after Dexter Morgan went missing in the eye of Hurricane Laura, the revival sees the character now living under an assumed name in a world away from Miami.

In addition to Hall and Creighton, the new season will star Clancy Brown as Kurt Caldwell, the primary villain and "the unofficial mayor of the small town of Iron Lake, New York". Caldwell's a former truck driver who now owns several trucks and the local truck stop; Julia Jones as Angela Bishop, "the first Native American Chief of Police in her town in upstate New York"; Johnny Sequoyah as Audrey, "Bishop's brash and opinionated teenage daughter"; Alano Miller as Logan, "a sergeant for the Iron Lake Police Department and the assistant wrestling coach for the local high school"; and Jack Alcott as Randall, "with whom Dexter has a meaningful encounter".

The revival season will consist of ten episodes, and Creighton is going to be in seven of those episodes as Fred Jr., "the congenial owner of Fred's Fish & Game, a shop he inherited from his father. He has grown up in Iron Lake and is a regular fixture around town that everybody knows and loves, whether it's line dancing at the local tavern or singing in the choir. He's married to Brian, the pastor of the small congregational church in town." Creighton's previous credits include Spotlight, The Post, Game Night, Dash & Lily, High Maintenance, The Dark End of the Street, and Billions.

Hall is executive producing this new batch of Dexter episodes alongside showrunner Clyde Phillips (who also served as showrunner on the first four seasons of Dexter's original run), John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Bill Carraro, Scott Reynolds, and Marcos Siega, who will be directing six of the episodes. Siega previously directed nine episodes of Dexter over the course of its second, third, and fourth seasons.

This is being referred to as a "close-ended revival", so it doesn't sound like we should expect to see any further seasons beyond this one. Even if these ten episodes are truly the end of Dexter, fans will probably be glad to have a different ending than the one they got at the end of season 8.
