Diablo Cody to lend her mojo jojo to a live-action Powerpuff Girls series

If you are one of those unfortunate people who are dead inside and cannot appreciate the fun of an animated series getting the live-action treatment, move along because these are not the droids you are looking for. However, if you are a child at heart or an adult who likes quality writing and fun cartoons, I urge you to read on. It's been announced that JUNO writer Diablo Cody and Arrowverse mastermind Greg Berlanti are joining forces to bring another iconic franchise to life with a new take on The Powerpuff Girls at The CW.

For the uninitiated, The Powerpuff Girls is an animated series that aired on Cartoon Network for six seasons from 1998-2005. The laugh-out-loud series centers on three super-powered little girls who constantly save the world (or at least the city of Townsville) from monsters, would-be conquerers, and a few other gross things.

The new version, which hails from Cody, Heather Regnier (Veronica Mars), Warner Bros. TV and studio-based Berlanti Productions, will feature adult versions of the three kindergarten-aged girls from the classic animated series created by Craig McCracken.

The Powerpuff Girls used to be America’s pint-sized superheroes. Now they’re disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime-fighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever? (via Deadline)

Cody and Regnier will script the series in addition to serving as executive producers courtesy of Vita Vera Films. Meanwhile, Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden will also executive produce via Berlanti Productions.

Oh wow! Do you think Cody's version of The Powerpuff Girls will be much like Berlanti's other superhero shows? Can we expect for live-action versions of The Rowdyruff Boys, Sedusa, Fuzzy Lumpkins, The Gangreen Gang, Princess, Mojo Jojo, Him, The Beat-Alls, and the Unnamed, Unbeatable Monster to be featured as a part of the fun? I certainly hope so. Who would you cast in the iconic roles of Blossom, Bubble, and Buttercup? Let us know in the comments section below.
