Diana Prince takes out some goons in new Wonder Woman 1984 image

The first WONDER WOMAN film took place during World War I, but the upcoming sequel will leap forward by several decades to the 1980s, an era of unbridled capitalism, big hair, and sprawling malls. Speaking of shopping malls, that's just where a new image from WONDER WOMAN 1984 (courtesy of Total Film) finds us with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) taking out some goons.

WONDER WOMAN 1984 director Patty Jenkins told Total Film that the '80s-set sequel was "a much harder movie to shoot… I was more ambitious with it. So doing all the stunts for real on wires and things, it’s extremely complicated and time-consuming. And everybody involved knows that you could say, ‘Oh, forget it, we’ll just do it in CG.’ So it was difficult in a new way [compared to the first film]." Jenkins added that they "weren't trying to make a mimicry [of the '80s]," but rather "make a movie as if it was a grounded movie in the '80s."

WONDER WOMAN 1984 stars Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Kristen Wiig as Barbara Minerva aka Cheetah, Pedro Pascal as Max Lords, and Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, who has mysteriously returned despite seemingly dying in the first movie. WONDER WOMAN 1984 will hit theaters on June 5, 2020.
