DiGilio is Damned

When I found out that Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt’s graphic novel THE DAMNED was going to make it to the big screen, I got all super-stoked inside. Cool concept, and the original source-material is what ‘awesome’ is all about. But Variety‘s report on who will be penning the adaptation has made me go from excited to scared, just like that!

DreamWorks has hired David DiGilio to write the adaptation. Whys is that scary? The guy’s claim to fame is that he wrote the Paul Walker / huskies Disney adventure EIGHT BELOW. How do you land a guy who writes movies like EIGHT BELOW to write a dark gothic-like tale? I just don’t get it!

THE DAMNED goes a little something like this: a Los Angeles detective discovers that a new gang with ties to the supernatural has infiltrated the city. Oh, I see. there’s the link to a feel-good movie about sled dogs! I see it now! Bleh…

The story rocks, and as it’s also described as a horror-noir, it sounds even cooler. Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are producing the flick, which I’m sure will be ramping up as soon as DiGilio is done cranking out a script. Yay.

Maybe I’m being too harsh on the guy–maybe he used EIGHT BELOW to break into the business, and he’s really a horror nut like the rest of us. Yeah. That’s it. This is gonna rock… Stick around for more on THE DAMNED as we hear it!
