Back when things started getting serious about a WOLVERINE sequel, we heard a number of names for possible directors, including contender David Slade (30 DAYS OF NIGHT, TWILIGHT: ECLIPSE).
How close did Slade get to taking Logan on a Japanese adventure? Just an adamantium claw length away, from the sound of it.
As he tells Hitfix, the process of getting a movie greenlit takes lots of time and meetings, and still may not come together. “I must have read or been at least offered 40+ projects,” Slade says. “I’ve gone after two. And therefore for reasons that are completely valid, those things didn’t happen.“
“THE WOLVERINE was like that, I had a great meeting with Hugh Jackman. We were all ready to go and then Darren Aronofsky, who has a great relationship with Hugh, showed up. You kind of feel like: ‘well, the girlfriend’s come back. I can either put up a fight here or I can just let nature take its course.'”
Slade discusses a number of topics, including ECLIPSE (out on DVD), 3D and digital filmmaking, revisiting his previous work, and plans for the future — check out the interview HERE.
