Director pals assemble?

In case you weren’t aware, filmmakers Alfonso Cuarón, Alejandro González Iñárritu, and Guillermo Del Toro are extremely tight (check out the link to Del Toro’s interview to hear about a recent example of their tightness). It should come as no surprise, then, to learn that, according to an interview Suicide Girls conducted with Cuarón, the three buds have entertained the idea co-directing a film together Then again, what that prospect lacks in unforeseeability it makes up for by being a great idea. Imagine the three distinctly maverick directors collaborating on something like this…

DRE: Would the two of you [Cuarón and Guillermo del Toro] ever work on a
film 50-50?

AC: We always talk about it. Doing a film with me, Guillermo and Alejandro
Iñárritu. At one point Guillermo wanted to do a story of a kidnapping seen
from three different points of view and for each one of us to take a
different character for a different point of view of the same situation.

DRE: That’d be wild!

AC: That would be very interesting.

With a premise that demands a fractured narrative, this sounds like it would be right up Iñárritu’s alley, only with Del Toro and Cuarón along to pick up some of the pieces. Judging by Cuarón’s words, this idea isn’t set in stone but these three directors working together at some point is something close to inevitable, so what do you think? Check out the full interview HERE. Notably, with BABEL currently out, CHILDREN OF MEN opening December 25th and PAN’S LABYRINTH hitting screens on the 29th, each of the threesome has an awards season movie in theaters this year.
