Director Renny Harlin returns to horror with The Hanging Coffin

I'm going to put this out there right now; Renny Harlin is one of my favorite movie directors. Now, while he might not be in the top five (or even the top ten) he is definitely up there after directing A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 4: THE DREAM MASTER.

Not only that but Harlin directed DEEP BLUE SEA, DIE HARD 2, CLIFFHANGER, PRISON, and THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT. That is one hell of a resume if you ask me.

For the last few years, Harlin has been directing, for lack of a better word "crap", with flicks like SKIPTRACE and THE LEGEND OF HERCULES. But the man has been mostly absent from the world of horror since 2013's DEVIL'S PASS.

Today we have word that Harlin will be returning to the world of horror with the upcoming flick THE HANGING COFFIN, a film being described as an "action-adventure-thriller featuring extreme sports, tomb raiding, and mutant creatures."

Mutant creatures?? Nice. Now you may say this film isn't straight horror, but the script was penned by Tony Jaswinski, who wrote the surprisingly badass Blake Lively vs shark flick THE SHALLOWS.

Whether this film ends up being straight horror or not, I for one am excited as hell to check out Harlin directing mutant creatures from the writer of THE SHALLOWS. How about you? Let us know what you think of THE HANGING COFFIN (great name btw) on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram!

Harlin's fantasy martial arts film LEGEND OF THE ANCIENT SWORD is set to hit theaters this year.
