The Catholic Church is usually not a fan of our genre, but apparently they aren’t opposed to reality shows. EW reports that The Vatican is teaming with the Discovery Channel for a new series entitled “The Exorcist Files”.
The show will recreate hauntings and possessions based on investigations by the Catholic Church. It will have access to the Vatican’s case files and interviews with the organization’s top exorcists.
“The Vatican is an extraordinarily hard place to get access to, but we explained we’re not going to try to tell people what to think,” says Discovery president Clark Bunting. “The work these folks do, and their conviction in their beliefs, make for fascinating stories.”
The series will debut this spring on Discovery Channel. If the premiere season is successful, the network hopes to take it to the next level by joining investigators on live exorcisms.
