Discuss: Joaquin Phoenix

Movie
news is a little slow these days, with the Martin Luther King
holiday and all, so I thought it might be interesting to get ya’lls
opinion on Joaquin Phoenix and his recent decision to quit acting
and pursue a career as a rapper. For anyone who doesn’t know what
the f*ck I’m talking about, check out the 3 videos below, the first
of which is him officially announcing his retirement on TV’s
"Extra". The following videos are his recent "rap
debut" at Club Lavo in Vegas over this past weekend (he falls
to the floor at the end of the second video). My question to
everyone is: do you think this is all part of a grand hoax or
mockumentary or some kind, or do you think this career move (and his
recent "new look") is for real?

According
to the NY
Daily News
, Phoenix’s brother-in-law Casey Affleck (he’s married
to Phoenix’s sister Summer) is filming all of the WALK THE LINE
actor’s activities of late, leading some to question the reality
behind it all. That said, Sean “Diddy” Combs is reportedly gonna be producing his first album (no release date announced yet). Phoenix has repeatedly confirmed his desire to leave
acting and recently stated that the upcoming TWO
LOVERS
would be final "performance as an actor". And
for anyone who thinks his new career is a joke, Phoenix says "This
is who I am. This is my story. Are there people out there who think
I’m a joke? I’m sure there will be…I can’t worry about that."
So what do you all think? Joke or for realz?
