Disney’s D23 Expo has been delayed to 2022

Disney's D23 Expo is a biennial fan convention of all things Disney that has grown to include all the various brands under the studio's umbrella, including Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, and more. The last D23 Expo was held on August 23–25, 2019 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California, and brought with it the first trailer for The Mandalorian, a behind-the-scenes look at STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER, the official announcement of the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series, as well as first looks at MULAN, BLACK WIDOW, ETERNALS, and much more.

The next D23 Expo was originally expected to launch in summer 2021, but with COVID-19 continuing to spread as well as the uncertainty about when things will be back to "normal," Disney has elected to push the entire event back by a full year. The company announced today that D23 Expo will now take place on September 9-11, 2022 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California.

Given all of the goodies that were unveiled during previous D23 Expo's, there was little doubt that the seventh expo would have followed suit, but alas, it's not to be, at least not until 2022. The event will also include a peek into how the Walt Disney Company is planning to celebrate its 100th anniversary, which will take place in 2023. This delay doesn't exactly come as a big surprise as we've seen countless large gatherings get cancelled or transition to an online setting.
