DLB dirrects Akula

Some interesting news came out of Variety this morning, and while it’s not necessarily horror, I have a feeling some of you may have some interest in it anyway. SAW 2 – 4 director Darren Lynn Bousman, who’s latest directorial effort REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA is quickly gaining cult status, has signed on to direct AKULA, from producer Paul W.S. Anderson.

So what the hell is AKULA? It’s not horror… but as Bousman puts it, it’s a heist thriller on a submarine… the tone is dark, but very different from the films I’ve directed recently.

A submarine heist flick sounds like it could be cool, and it’s probably a good move on Bousman’s part to do something a little different, as doing another SAW is totally out of the question, and a REPO sequel sounds too… soon. It’d be interesting to see how the guy handles something that’s not torture horror / musical-esque, to say the least.

We may or may not cover more of AKULA, since it’s not a horror flick, but thought you’d like to keep dibs on one of the genre’s latest ‘classic’ directors.
