Facing Recent Health Challenges with Signature Grace
Concerns about Dolly‘s health have been making headlines since the fall of 2025. Ahead of a limited “comeback tour,” she issued the following statement to fans:
“As many of you know, I have been dealing with some health challenges, and my doctors tell me that I must have a few procedures,” Dolly wrote after canceling a six-show December residency at Las Vegas’ Caesars Palace. “As I joked with them, it must be time for my 100,000-mile check-up, although it’s not the usual trip to see my plastic surgeon! In all seriousness, given this, I am not going to be able to rehearse and put together the show that I want you to see, and the show that you deserve to see. You pay good money to see me perform, and I want to be at my best for you.” She added, “While I’ll still be able to work on all of my projects from here in Nashville, I just need a little time to get show ready, as they say,” she continued. “And don’t worry about me quittin’ the business because God hasn’t said anything about stopping yet. But, I believe He is telling me to slow down right now so I can be ready for more big adventures with all of you. I love you and thank you for understanding.”
Despite recent health concerns, Dolly remained a creative force in the making of a new musical about her life, Dolly: An Original Musical. The show had its premiere engagement at the Fisher Center on the Belmont University campus in Nashville this past July and August. The autobiographical musical held its pre-Broadway run there, with expectations that the show might open in New York in 2026.
Dolly was also actively involved in the making of Dolly Parton’s Threads: My Songs in Symphony, a traveling concert in which other singers performed her songs alongside local symphony orchestras, with Parton herself appearing on the big screen.
From Country Royalty to Rock & Roll Hall of Famer
She was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, a long-overdue honor. Initially, Parton rejected the nomination, saying she’s not a “true rocker,” but fan enthusiasm helped change her mind. She also played a warm-hearted Louisiana beauty shop owner named Truby Jones in Steel Magnolias, with Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine, and Julia Roberts.
Dolly’s other memorable roles include Mona Stangley in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Shirlee Kenyon in Straight Talk, and Jake Farris in 1984’s Rhinestone.
