If you want the experience of being reminded of about 25 different movies at once, then by all means, check out the DOOMSDAY trailer at Yahoo! The first half looks like ALIENS and RESIDENT EVIL: APOCALYPSE, the second: ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK and all three MAD MAX’s (among many others – feel free to pitch in below).
This isn’t to say it looks bad, but I’m certainly not going to jump up and down on my bed over it. You take away 85% of its budget and it’s premiering on Sci-Fi.
Things it has going for it? It was directed by Neil Marshall, who of course is a new geek-messiah because of THE DESCENT – and stars Rhona Mitra, Bob Hoskins, Malcolm McDowell, and David O’Hara – all welcome.
A lethal virus spreads throughout a major country and kills hundreds of thousands. To contain the newly identified Reaper, the authorities brutally quarantine the country as it succumbs to fear and chaos. The literal walling-off works for three decades–until Reaper violently resurfaces in a major city. An elite group of specialists, including Eden Sinclair, is urgently dispatched into the still-quarantined country to retrieve a cure by any means necessary. Shut off from the rest of the world, the unit must battle through a landscape that has become a waking nightmare.
The flick opens on March 14.
