Dopesick: Michael Keaton helps to expose the opioid crisis in new trailer

Hulu is handing out prescriptions for Dopesick today with a new trailer and key art for the upcoming thriller. The eight-episode Hulu Original series examines how one company triggered the worst drug epidemic in American history. The series takes viewers to the epicenter of America’s struggle with opioid addiction, from the boardrooms of Big Pharma to a distressed Virginia mining community, to the hallways of the DEA. Defying all the odds, heroes will emerge in an intense and thrilling ride to take down the craven corporate forces behind this national crisis and their allies. The limited series is inspired by the New York Times bestselling book by Beth Macy.

Dopesick is written by Emmy winner Danny Strong (Empire, Recount, Game Change) and directed by Oscar-winner Barry Levinson (Rain Man, Wag the Dog, Bugsy). Also starring in the emotional and hard-hitting series are Peter Sarsgaard, Michael Stuhlbarg, Will Poulter, John Hoogenakker, and Kaitlyn Dever, with Phillipa Soo and Jake McDorman set to guest star.

Dopesick premieres on Wednesday, October 13, with the first three episodes. New episodes will stream weekly, inviting viewers to venture deeper into a crisis of the soul. It’s terrifying to think that the opioid epic is ongoing and that corporations orchestrated the distribution of OxyContin in the interest of making a buck, knowing full-well the dangers it presents to vulnerable users. Where’s the “Shame Nun” when you need her, eh?
