Locked Down trailer teases Doug Liman’s pandemic heist-comedy

HBO Max has unveiled its trailer for Doug Liman's upcoming heist comedy Locked Down, which takes place during the coronavirus pandemic. Hailing from Warner Bros. Pictures and AGC Studios, Liman's quickly-turned-around film project stars Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Linda and Paxton, respectively, a couple that decides to separate during the lockdown. However, co-habitation proves to be a challenge when suddenly they're presented with an opportunity to steal an impressive diamond. Fueled by poetry and copious amounts of wine, the heist brings them closer together in the most surprising way.

Joining Hathaway and Ejiofor for Locked Down are actors Stephen Merchant, Mindy Kaling, Lucy Boynton, Dulé Hill, Jazmyn Simon, with Ben Stiller and Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley.

“Linda has been carrying around so much tension for so long,” Hathaway told People about her character. “This film is partially about how the chaos of lockdown allows her to release that tension, let go of whatever BS was getting her through the day, and how she gets all the way honest about what authenticity and freedom mean to her. She is messy and a little nuts and I liked that.”

Liman and his crew shot the film in London during the months of September and October of 2020, a time when most productions were shut down due to the ongoing pandemic. Liman saw Locked Down as an opportunity to work with a strong ensemble of actors in an intimate setting with an unostentatious budget. The result looks to be a comedy that is likely to hit way-too-close to home for some, while others are bound to identify with the film's all-too-familiar setting and circumstances.

Locked Down will debut on HBO Max on January 14, 2021.
