In a kind of redudant/cash-in move, Universal has announced 75th Anniversary DVDs for DRACULA starring Bela Lugosi and FRANKENSTEIN starring Boris Karloff and Colin Clive. These two-disc editions will be available to own September 26th, both retailing at $26.98.
No specs have been released for these sets as of yet, though they will be presented in their original aspect ratio of 1.33:1 full frame, along with English Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono. Also, DRACULA will include both the 1 hour 14 minute North American and 1 hour 44 minute Spanish versions.
Getting back to the redudancy/cash-in issue for a second. Considering that both films were released as part of Universal’s Monster Legacy Collection a few years back (with extras galore), it seems to be a case of double-dip. Unless of course there’s some long-lost interviews with Karloff and Lugosi, or new commentaries, I’ll be passing this one up.
