DreamWorks is Paranormal

Seems like the Slamdance Fest is just as good as Sundance… maybe? No ok. Well anyway, last week I told you about one Slamdance entry being picked up Anchor Bay, that being JACK BROOKS: MONSTER SLAYER. Well news today via Variety has DreamWorks joining in on the fun.

The movie DreamWorks found interesting enough to purchase? PARANORMAL ACTIVITY. The kicker is that DreamWorks picked up domestic AND remake rights. So their aiming to remake the flick with Jason Blum producing, Steven Schneider executive producing and DreamWorks’ Ashley Brooks overlooking everything for president Adam Goodman.

Contrary to DreamWorks planning to remake the film, the original should still be seeing DVD distribution here in the US.

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY is about a young couple that suspects their house is haunted by a malevolent entity. They set up video surveillance to capture evidence of what happens at night as they sleep. Their surveillance and home videos have been edited into this 99 minute feature film.

According to Variety, director Oren Peli shot the film over one week with a high-def camera in his own house with two unknown actors, Katie Featherstone and Micah Sloat, who manned the camera much of the time.

Interesting. If the movie caught DreamWorks’ eye, it must have something to it. Then again in today’s Hollywood it seems like I can take a camera into my backyard and film a killer squirrel story that would sell for eight figures.

As always, we’ll keep you updated on any other news. Meanwhile you can check out the trailer for PARANORMAL ACTIVITY below and the official website over here.
