It seems DreamWorks, who recently scored the film rights to popular game MONSTERPOCALYPSE, are looking to Tim Burton as the creative catalyst for the film! Now according to the guys over at Deadline New York this is only in early talks and the only name attached to the project is game creator Matt Wilson, who’ll be co-producing. So there’s that. Wait… you’ve never heard of MONSTERPOCALYPSE? Well that’s what I’m here for!
The game is played on one of a variety of game maps, which resemble city maps. Structures (such as office buildings and oil refineries) are placed on it to build a cityscape. Monsters and other units (represented by miniatures) battle to the death while destroying the structures. The monster is represented by two forms: an Alpha and a Hyper form. The goal of the game is to destroy both forms of the enemy monster. This is done by brawling, blasting, or making devastating power attacks against the enemy monster. Units can attack a monster as well, but they typically need to work together in order to deal damage. However, the most damage comes from using the monster exclusive power attacks that deal damage by, for example, sending the opposing monster crashing into one or more buildings on the map.
That juicy description is courtesy of Wikipedia. Sounds like something right down Burton’s alley right? Mind you, there’s a possibility the filmmaker will pass on this project considering his upcoming slate of films but then again… chances are he won’t.
What do you guys think? Would you be stoked to see Burton help out with MONSTERPOCALYPSE? Anyone out there actually play this game before? Hit us with some feedback below and keep it here for more on MONSTERPOCALYPSE as we hear it!
