Drew Barrymore developing Black Rose Anthology with female writers/directors

Drew Barrymore and Nancy Juvonen's production company Flower Films is teaming with CBS TV Studios and former Scream: The TV Series showrunner Jill Blotevogel to develop a horror anthology series called Black Rose Anthology for the CW. What makes this anthology stand out from the pack before it even heads into production is the fact that it's going to be written and directed entirely by women.

Blotevogel is writing the pilot, and the idea is that Black Rose Anthology will

explore some of humanity's deepest fears from a woman's unique perspective. Classic themes of terror will be tackled via vignettes about guilt, jealousy, repression, paranoia, insanity, sexual obsession and survival through a modern and distinctly feminine lens.

Barrymore (pictured above in SCREAM), Juvonen, and Blotevogel will be executive producing the series with Jamie Denenberg and Kevin Abrams of Alpine Labs, Anthony Masi, Nick Phillips, and Lotti Pharriss Knowles of MasiMedia, and Chris Miller and Ember Truesdell of Flower Films. The CW's head of development Gaye Hirsch is overseeing the project for the network.

Black Rose Anthology follows in the footsteps of this year's anthology feature XX, which was also written and directed entirely by women.
