Duo for Tingler Remake

And the remake train is still set full steam ahead! Though they’re steering away from remaking more recent films on this project, Columbia Pictures and Original Films has tapped Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to write the remake of the 1959 Vincent Price classic THE TINGLER!

Melton and Dunstan were the dudes who wrote last year’s monster-fest FEAST, so at least they have a background in the genre… but what the hell is their problem, making it big with something original, only to be hired to write a remake??? Lame! That’s lame, I say!

The original TINGLER centered on a scientist whose research on the cure for fear unleashes an entity known as the Tingler, which feeds off people’s fears in order to kill them. Cool concept, and what made this flick even cooler is that it was also a gimmick flick- theaters were hooked up with shockers and whatnot, so at the real scary moments, your seat would jolt… scaring you even more!

I’ll be the first to admit that the concept here could definitely be updated… but with the onslaught of remakes hitting us left and right these days, I just want to hear about original films… and not remakes for a change!

On a side note, Dunstan has just signed with Dimension Films to direct the horror flick MIDNIGHT MAN (that he co-wrote with Melton), and the two are also behind THE VINEYARD, a teeny horror TV show that Fox just picked up. Ok, so they’re doing more than just a remake for their follow-up to FEAST, but still… a remake??? Damn them!
