Fire up the grill and pour yourself a few fingers of bourbon because Chad Feehan’s Yellowstone spinoff, Dutton Ranch, is getting a second season at Paramount+. The renewal comes as no surprise, especially after Paramount+ said it was the platform’s biggest original series launch ever. The green light for a second season of Dutton Ranch speaks to the lasting appeal of Taylor Sheridan’s universe of shows, which more often than not become major hits that warrant several seasons before disappearing into the sunset.
Here’s the official logline for Dutton Ranch: “As Beth and Rip fight to build a future together — far from the ghosts of Yellowstone — they collide with brutal new realities and a ruthless rival ranch that will stop at nothing to protect its empire. In South Texas, blood runs deeper, forgiveness is fleeting, and the cost of survival might just be your soul.”
Dutton Ranch stars Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser as Beth and Rip, respectively. Finn Little reprises his role as Carter, while Natalia Alyn Lind plays Carter’s love interest, Oreana. The 9-episode drama also stars Juan Pablo Raba, Marc Menchaca, Annette Bening, and Ed Harris.
For years, I didn’t vibe with Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe. However, when the opportunity to cover Mayor of Kingstown and The Madison arose, I began to see the franchise’s extensive appeal. Not every show is to my taste, but Dutton Ranch has a certain appeal. I don’t find it as engaging as Mayor of Kingstown, or as emotionally resonant as The Madison, but it’s well-acted, and the show’s setting is to die for.
“Beth and Rip are among the most iconic duos in television history and we are thrilled to bring a whole new world to life with Dutton Ranch for our subscribers around the world,” said Jane Wiseman, Head of Originals for Paramount+. “We’re also incredibly grateful to our partners, including the teams at Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios, for bringing this new series to life with such grit, heart and authenticity.”
