SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET – April 1st
To some, nothing spells perfection quite like Johnny Depp and Tim Burton. From EDWARD SCISSORHANDS to ED WOOD, when the two collaborate, the result is a triumph and a half. Case in point is SWEENEY TODD, a musical that showcased bloodsplatter as it’s single most famous dramatic device. While you couldn’t have drug me to see a musical on most occasions, you couldn’t keep me away from checking this beast out. Splatting at you in both a single and double disc release, both editions offers you something cool and unique – a must own any way you look at it.
The Goods:
SEANCE – April 22nd
You know a movie doesn’t have a lot going for it when it’s biggest tagline is ‘from the writer of VACANCY.’ Not that I’m talking smack about VACANCY, but how does a movie about a couple in a hotel being stalked and spooked have anything to do with a Ouija board, a little girl, and a SEANCE? I get the same dude wrote both, but they’re unrelated! Oh well. They have to do something to make peeps interested in picking this thing up.
The Goods:
KNOCK KNOCK – April 29th
Tell me if you’ve heard this one before: Knock, knock. Who’s there? Howd-ya-like-a. Howd-ya-like-a who? Howd-ya-like-a horror movie ripping off the punch-line of a joke? I tell ya, the ideas (for titles, at least) are being stretched thing by the minute. Too bad the tag-line wasn’t ‘The Last Joke You’ll Ever Hear!!!’- cause that would be the coolest.
The Goods:
RETRIBUTION – April 15th
The director of the original PULSE is behind this J-horror import, but I’m not sure if you’re average Jo would know that. To me, the box is telling me that the a-hole who gave us the PULSE remake is the one behind this – and there ain’t nobody out there who wants to see more of that! As it is, this one here is from master of J-horror Kiyoshi Kurasawa. Pick it up and give your soul some retribution after sitting through the PULSE remake.
The Goods:
THE BACKWOODS –April 15th – Because it stars Gary ‘my evil stare will kill you’ Oldman!
HELLO MARY LOU: PROM NIGHT II –April 1st – Because this release has been in the making for years, and your VHS copy has seen just about the end of its days.
DELIRIUM – April 29th – Because it promises to be sick and demented… ain’t nothing wrong with that!
