THE LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS: SE – June 27th
No, not the musical starring Rick Moranis, but the original B&W classic from schlock-meister Roger Corman, and featuring the great Jack Nicholson. Maybe one of the first horror comedies ever, see how it all began with a lonely man, a plant with an appetite for blood, and some dame who’s dummer than snot- yet worth fighting over. It doesn’t get much better than this!
The Goods:
SCORPIUS GIGANTUS – July 25th
This is when a good idea (lab experiments on Scorpions) goes wrong (they mutate, get big, and kill everything in sight). It also equals monster movie fun starring THE LAWNMOWER MAN himself, Jeff Fahey. If you ask me, giant killer bug movies will never go out of style, so it’s best just to embrace them with a smile on your face, and think of all the really bad stuff that could’ve happened in HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS.
The Goods:
V FOR VENDETTA – August 1st
Perhaps the best film of the year so far, watch as Natalie Portman kicks ass, makes out with a mask, and blows a bunch of shite up- all with no hair. Two editions will be released (a one disc and a two disc), though no features have been announced yet. Quite the quick turn around here, and for that I am grateful- can’t wait to get my hands on this mutha! Plus, dig those covers!
HELLRAISER III – August 8th – UPDATE
We were told there wouldn’t be extras on this new released edition when it was first announced, and we were lied to. There are extras! Sure, it might only be a couple features, but that’s better than nothing, right? Right??? Right. Plus, deleted scenes from any of the HELLRAISER movies always equals ‘good stuff’, it’s just a shame they weren’t cut back into the movie. Ah well. At least we’re not getting shafted!
The Goods:
SCARY MOVIE 4 – August 15th
While it wasn’t as bad as part 3, the latest installment of the genre-spoof series is aiming to hit DVD during the same week SNAKES ON A PLANE hits theaters. You might ask yourself why that’s important, and I’m here to tell you that it’s not- I’m just saying, that’s all. I’ll hand it to part 4- it made hella money at the B.O., it features a bunch of hotties, and was pretty frickin’ funny…. on weed!.
The Goods:
THE ZODIAC – August 29th
Can’t wait for David Fincher’s vision of the notorious serial killer that stalked San Francisco in the 70s? This bad boy will be sure to fill the void when it shelves this summer, and with a cast that features Robin Tunney, Philip Baker Hall and Rory Culkin, it might even prove to be much better than you’d expect. Or it could be poop mashed in a zip-lock baggie.
The Goods:
XTRO 2 – May 30th – Because the first XTRO wasn’t enough punishment- yet you can’t… stop… watching…
THE CAVERN – July 18th – Because after seeing THE CAVE, you’re thirsty for more… of the same.
KOMODO VS COBRA – July 25th – Because you’ve been waiting for this battle your entire life… too bad it’s rated PG-13.
That’s all for this week! Stay tuned every Thursday for your latest DVD news, and as always, feel free to shoot me an email (ammongilbert@joblo.com
