    THE OTHER – September 5th

Remember that flick in the early 90s starring Macaulay Culkin and Elijah Wood called THE GOOD SON? Well, that was pretty much a remake of this 1972 classic about two brothers, and one of them is bad and kills people. Yes, that’s a simplified version of what it’s about, but you get the point. Me, I always liked THE GOOD SON, although I’m sure if I watched it today it’d be laughable at best, but at the time seeing HOME ALONE drop the F-Bomb was awesome. Ok. It’s still awesome.

    The Goods:

  • Anamorphic 1.85:1 Widescreen Transfer
  • Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo Surround and Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono Tracks

    CLIVE BARKER’S THE PLAGUE – September 5th

Four words people: James Van Der Beek! Ok, now that that’s out of the way, this is the first film under Clive Barker’s Midnight Picture Show label and it’s a dying shame it didn’t get the theatrical treatment. Dawson here comes back from prison to discover the towns’ youth have gained superpowers and are killing everyone in sight. Hells yeah. It’s rated R (why release a rated version?) for violence/gore and language (no boobies, sorry folks!) and also co-stars horror legend Dee Wallace Stone. Barker didn’t direct this puppy (only produced), so if it sucks, don’t blame him.

    The Goods:

  • Widescreen (2.35) and Full screen Versions of the Film
  • Deleted scenes
  • Cast & editor commentary
  • Audio: English 5.1 (Dolby Digital), French
  • Subtitles: English, French
  • Closed captions

    STAY ALIVE – September 19th

Though it rocked one of the cooler taglines of the year, this pussywhipped horror flick for kids was nothing more than Disney trying to make a buck from devoted fans that thought it was actually gonna be good and gory. Though hope is not at all lost with the unrated DVD release, as it’s now 100 minutes (from 85 minutes) and even features a brand new character and subplot. And it better feature all those bloody death sequences we were promised were gonna be there (but weren’t), damnit! Only plus: watching Frankie Muniz die. It really doesn’t get much better than that. Actually, if he stayed dead, that would be better (at least there’s hope in this unrated cut)!

    The Goods:

  • 2.35:1 Anamorphic Transfer
  • Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio
  • A Filmmaker’s Commentary
  • Interactive Bonus Menus
  • A Visual Effects Reel
  • Trailers

    THE GHOST WHISPERER-SEASON ONE – September 26th

I know what you’re thinking: Jennifer Love Hewitt has a nice rack. That’s obvious. But is this show any good? Well, I’d assume someone thought so, as it’s not cancelled after it’s first season- so I guess it’d would be a good idea to pick this bad boy up and catch up on the series. If for no other reason than watch J-Love bounce around for 22 episodes, though don’t hold your breath for any wardrobe malfunctions here.

    The Goods:

  • All Twenty-Two Episodes
  • Cast and Crew Commentaries on Select Episodes
  • Some Deleted Scenes
  • Behind the Ccenes Featurettes

L-Love’s talking… and my pants are listening.

MASTERS OF HORROR – IMPRINT – September 26th

The only MASTERS OF HORROR episode anyone really wants to see as Showtime deemed this one too hot for TV, and didn’t even let it stretch its legs when the series aired back in October. Takashi Miike’s stab at being a master proved he really is a master… at pissing off the censors with some truly sick shit. And we all thank him for it. Though not as many special features as JENIFER, if you’re gonna own one MASTERS OF HORROR on DVD, make it this one!

    The Goods:

  • 1.78:1 Anamorphic Transfer
  • Dolby Digital 5.1
  • Behind-the-Scenes Footage
  • Featurettes
  • A Still Gallery
  • Trailers
  • DVD-ROM Material

    DVD Cover Art

    Honorable Mentions:

THIS ISLAND EARTH – August 22nd – Because you too can re-enact Mystery Science Fiction 3000 with cheese like this!

JIM HENSON’S FANTASY FILM COLLECTION – September 5th – Because tripping on acid with Jennifer Connelly, David Bowie and a bunch of puppets has never been this much fun!

PRETTY POISON– September 5th – Because it stars Anthony Perkins in something other than PSYCHO.
