Dwayne Johnson reunites with Jumanji director for holiday movie Red One

Ho, Ho, Johnson? It’s been reported that Dwayne Johnson is set to reunite with Jake Kasdan, who directed Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Jumanji: The Next Level, for a holiday movie titled Red One. Said to be a “unique Christmas-themed” movie, Red One is being developed for Amazon Studios.

Dwayne Johnson is attached to star in the holiday movie, perhaps even as Santa Claus himself. Johnson will also produce through his Seven Bucks Production banner alongside Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia. Chris Morgan will pen the script for Red One based on an original story from Hiram Garcia. As for the plot details, those are being kept securely in the North Pole, but the film has been described as “a globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy, imagining a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre.” Production on Red One will get underway next year for a tentative 2023 holiday release.

Dwayne Johnson is one of the busiest dudes in show business and has plenty of projects on his slate. He was recently seen starring alongside Emily Blunt in Jungle Cruise (check out our own Chris Bumbray’s review). A Jungle Cruise sequel is already in development and it’s been teased that it will take Johnson and Blunt to different parts of the world as they explore new supernatural mysteries. Johnson will next be seen in Red Notice, an action-comedy for Netflix that also stars Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot. The film finds Johnson playing an FBI profiler who is forced to partner with the world’s greatest art thief (Reynolds) in order to catch the world’s most wanted art thief (Gadot). The film will hit Netflix on November 12, 2021. Johnson also has Black Adam on the way, and a first look at the superhero film was unveiled at DC FanDome earlier this month.
