THR’s Heat Vision is reporting that the actor is in negotiations to star in JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND from director Brad Peyton (CATS & DOGS: THE REVENGE OF KITTY GALORE), the sequel to 2008’s JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH.
Johnson, replacing the now departed Brendan Fraser due to scheduling conflicts, joins recent Spider-Man hopeful Josh Hutcherson (RED DAWN, ZATHURA) who will be reprising his role from the first film. Here’s Heat Vision with more:
Johnson will play the boyfriend of Hutcherson’s mom, who Hutcherson is forced to bring on a trip to a mythical and monstrous island to find his missing grandfather. The script is loosely based on Jules Verne’s “The Mysterious Island.”
JOURNEY 2 will be shot in 3D and is looking to start production in North Carolina and Hawaii this October.
