Dylan Walsh joins Superman & Lois as new General Lane

Nip/Tuck alum, Dylan Walsh, is set to join the Arrowverse. The actor has been cast as Lois and Lucy's father, General Samuel Lane. Glenn Morshower initially played the character in season 1 of Supergirl but hasn't returned for any additional guest appearances since the show's move from CBS to The CW.

Superman & Lois, starring Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch in the titular roles, was fast-tracked once it was announced to be in development back in 2019. This led to The CW skipping the traditional pilot phase and ordering the show straight-to-series for the upcoming fall season. With Arrowverse mega-producer Greg Berlanti behind the project, the network had the confidence in the project that it would be worth a series order.

The cornavirus pandemic has been a bit of an issue for the series, as well as any production as a whole for the foreseeable future.  The CW's lineup of DC dramas is currently on hiatus, both airing and production-wise given COVID-19, so it's unclear when Superman & Lois will be able to start filming but behind the scenes work is still taking place. In addition to Walsh's casting, Jordan Elsass & Alexander Garfin have officially joined the series as Lois and Clark's sons Jonathan and Jordan Kent.

This is the first time that General Lane has been used as a series regular throughout his run. The character has appeared three other times on various series in a recurring capacity with his first appearance being portrayed by Denis Arndt (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) and was then followed by Michael Ironside (Smallville) and then Morshower. The CW describes this version of Lane as "a workaholic U.S. Army general who does everything he can to protect the world from any threats. Whether it comes from on or off Earth, Sam expects perfection from everyone who's in his life."

Superman & Lois will follow the world's most famous super hero and comic book's most famous journalist as they deal with all the stress, pressures, and complexities that come with being working parents in today's societyTyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch's Clark and Lois have been one of the well-received iterations of the iconic DC couple since the "Elseworlds" crossover in 2018 on The CW.
