Well folks it seems Tim Burton and company have finally found time for that DARK SHADOWS adaptation we’ve been hearing about forever now: February 2011!
That’s right ladies and gentlemen, according to Comic Book Movie Mr. Burton, Mr. Johnny Depp and the whole gang will start production on the remake of the classic television series in February of next year. That’s only three and a half months away folks! Nice! Bet you didn’t expect this one to be tossed together so quickly! Or did you? You see back in July we learned that Seth Graham-Smith had inherited writing duties on DARK SHADOWS from John August. Well apparently Graham-Smith has passed in his script and things are on the fast-track to get started!
Scope out what Johnny Depp, who’s producing and starring in the project as ‘Barnabas Collins,’ had to say: “Tim and I have tossed the idea for Dark Shadows over the years. It was a TV program in the States in the late 60s and early 70s that I remember watching as a kid. I was obsessed with this character, Barnabas Collins, who was a vampire. I came to find out many years later that when he was a kid, Tim ran home like I did to watch that Gothic soap opera. It was a very strange thing back then.We looked at ways to go, story-wise. We’ve started to come up with something interesting.”
Hell if Johnny Depp is excited for this thing, then so am I! I mean seriously… how can you not be? Scope out the synopsis for the series:
DARK SHADOWS centers on the 175-year-old vampire Barnabas Collins, sealed in his coffin by his father in 1795 and inadvertently unleashed in the present where he must adjust to an entirely new world while passing himself off to relatives in Collinwood, Maine as a cousin from England.
