In the late 80s, I remember this flick that was part drama, party comedy, and part… horror movie? Starring Cher, Susan Sarandon, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Jack Nicholson, it was called THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK and it was one of my mom’s favorite movies, so I had to sit through it a few times because that’s what my mom wanted to watch, and therefore, that’s what I watched.
Fast forward to today. Variety is reporting that ABC has ordered a TV pilot based on the film, called.. you guessed it… THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK, based on the film and the original John Updike novel (adapted for the small screen by Maggie Friedman).
It’s not that I don’t appreciate a movie about a bunch of chicks with man trouble who turn to witchcraft to get get their groove on, but as a weekly TV series? Count me out. My mom, however, will probably TiVo that shit until the cows come home.
No other details have been released, but this does bring up the question: instead of remaking movies for the big screen, will there be a revival of remakes to the small screen as TV shows? We’ll keep on eye on this badboy as we learn more about it.
