Eastwood on Hereafter

Not even 24 hours ago, our resident Bostonian Jared had some wicked pissuh news (sorry JP, couldn’t help it), about Opie’s kin (Bryce Dallas Howard) being added to Big Clint’s next year thriller HEREAFTER. Well, looks like Dirty Harry himself couldn’t keep completely mum on said project when plugging his new picture INVICTUS.

In fact, the screen legend sat down with MTV and divulged as much as he could (or let’s face it, wanted to) about his 2010 supernatural thriller. As far as basic story elements go, Eastwood had this to say:

“It’s a story that’s actually three stories of people (a blue-collar American, A French journalist and English schoolboy) who have had traumatic experiences in their life,” he explained, adding “and how these stories converge towards one another. It ends up with all three stories culminating in one big sequence.”

And keeping with that tight lipped growl of his, Big Clint added the film is akin to “a French film or those kinds of films that were popular for awhile.”

As far as playing a role himself, Eastwood quickly drew “no, none for me. There isn’t one in mind.” Of course, there were none for him in the preliminary stages of GRAN TORINO and MILLION DOLLAR BABY, and he ended up starring in each.

Which brings me to this: with our man Jared having a little fun yesterday, positing that Matt Damon, a recent favorite of Eastwood, would play the American with Howard in the French role – I’d like to reassess. I’m thinking Eastwood in the American blue collar role, and stay with me here – Damon in the French girl role, with Howard pulling a Cate Blanchet and playing the English schoolboy. Now that’s a f*ckin’ flick I’d pay to see.!
