Last month I showed you guys one of the first images from the forthcoming J-horror remake THE ECHO. “Who gives a rat’s butt about J-horror?!” you may be exclaiming. Well, normally I’d agree, but after checking out the first trailer for the flick, I’m starting to think that this one may not suck rat ass at all. To judge for yourself, simple click here.
It’s kind of looking like a cross between DARK WATER and TOOLBOX MURDERS with a dash of THE GRUDGE (no big surprise that two of those flicks are J-horror). On the remake end, the one thing THE ECHO does have going for it is that the original’s director, Yam Laranas is helming this one as well. I know for a fact that Mr. Laranas is very passionate about this story and looking to give some good, old-fashioned scares. Take a look at the plot and see if anything reverberates:
An ex-con moves into an old apartment building, where he encounters a domestic problem involving a police officer, his wife, and their daughter. When he tries to intervene, however, a mysterious curse entraps him.
THE ECHO stars Kevin Durand, Jesse Bradford, Amelia Warner (below), Pruitt Taylor Vince, and Jayne Eastwood. The flick is currently completed and eyeing a release some time in 2008.
