Ed Harris says the Man in Black is a “protagonist” in Westworld Season 2

Without a doubt, one of the nastiest characters you'll meet upon entering HBO's WESTWORLD series is the Man in Black, as played by Ed Harris (APOLLO 13, THE ABYSS). He's a calculated villain who's not afraid to murder, rape, or pillage if it will set him closer to his goal of uncovering the secrets of the futuristic vacation resort. With that in mind, I think it's fair to say that he's the last person you'd expect to be called a "protagonist" for his part in the events of Season 2 of the show. However, that's precisely what Ed Harris is saying about his character, while talking up a few details about the upcoming season.

“I see him as a protagonist actually, yes,” Harris remarked. “Particularly this season. The maze is history. He’s on a whole other track this year, and I think the track that he’s on definitely makes him a protagonist. I’m worried about Season 3, to tell you the truth.” At the close of the program's first exciting season, the Man in Black was thought to have been fatally shot, though plans for the upcoming fantasy drama suggest that not only did he survive, but that his mission has changed as a result. The character is expected to play a big part in what's to come, when WESTWORLD returns on April 22nd on HBO.

While continuing to talk up the show, Harris also promised that his character "becomes less mysterious" this time around. "We learn more about him," Harris said. Before wrapping his comments on the upcoming events, Harris added that the Man in Black will be looking to "make amends," when the series returns. Yeesh! What do you think his character's idea of "making amends" would be? I shudder to think.

What's the first thing you would do upon entering WESTWORLD? Do you think you'd be a White Hat of a Black Hat? Who do you think has more fun? If you're excited for the show's return, let us know in the comments section below.
