Ed Wood’s original masterpiece Plan 9 From Outer Space getting the 3D treatment

In the tradition of ALICE IN WONDERLAND, where an otherwise bad film is converted to the third dimension, it appears as though San Diego-based 3D Production & Conversion studio PassmoreLab is taking it one step further by converting Ed Wood’s PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE to 3D!

PLAN 9’s biggest claim to fame is that it’s the absolute “worse movie of all time,” but as we’re deep in the age where any schmuck can make a movie, I would beg to differ. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen shittier movies released in the last decade than PLAN 9 could ever dream of being. Plus, you gotta consider TROLL 2 and THE HAPPENING in this equation.

But whatever. This isn’t a debate as to what film is the absolute worse, it’s news as to the 3D conversion (and colorization!) of the 1959 black & white zombie/alien/grave-robber classic. According to Greg Passmore, the president of PassmoreLab, Our studio has a definite indie feel to it – a little alternative and off-center — and we are absolutely drawn to cool and unusual projects. That was a big reason we converted Romero’s ‘Night of the Living Dead’ last year. And that’s exactly why we are converting ‘Plan 9’, because we love cult films, and we take great care with them.

As they should. PLAN 9 will always hold a special place in my heart so they best not eff this up. I guess for an idea as what it may look like is to seek out the 3D version of Romero’s NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, which they completed last year and screened at select theaters in the L.A. area. If that rocked, then it’s all good… if not, then… well, you know.
