While it is far from a done deal, ANT-MAN is inching closer to being the next Edgar Wright film as the director confirmed to the LA Times that he’s finally returned to working on the film’s script. Wright says he hasn’t done any work on his original draft (with his ADVENTURES OF TINTIN co-writer Joe Cornish) since he started developing SCOTT PILGRIM back in 2007 but now that his promotional obligations are complete, this week he’s begun writing the script.
While he wouldn’t addres specifics, Wright did say, “This one’s not about about the urgency of summer tentpoles and things going into production without a script,” likely referencing the IRON MAN productions. “It’s slightly different than that.”
Wright met with Feige earlier this week to discuss the status of ANT-MAN among other things. And if we’re being frank, I hope one of those other things was gauging Wright’s interest in directing IRON MAN 3. It’s a longshot but if Feige had Wright’s ear and didn’t at least bring it up, he’s not doing his full due diligence.
Ant-Man likely won’t make an appearance in Joss Whedon’s THE AVENGERS though Wasp, a frequent Ant-Man pal and potential theatrical co-star, is rumored to be one of the new female stars of that film.
