Lost in all the CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON hubbub is the news that Breck Eisner isn’t just going to cry in his beer waiting for another remake to pop up. He’s already moved on, dammit!
The L.A. Times is reporting that Eisner – who has THE CRAZIES coming out in February – is now in charge of THE BROOD, a remake of the surreal 1979 David Cronenberg horror show (which we last talked about HERE). Cory Goodman is writing the screenplay for the film, which has been floating around for a couple of years and may have now found some new traction.
In case you’ve never seen it, THE BROOD is about a man who tries to uncover an unconventional psychologist’s therapy techniques on his institutionalized wife, while a series of brutal attacks committed by a brood of mutant children coincides with the husband’s investigation.
Meanwhile, sometimes it just seems like a project isn’t meant to exist. To me, the CREATURE OF THE BLACK LAGOON remake is one of those projects. It’s been in development so long, and has changed hands so many times, that at this point it just seems like Universal is hell-bent on just getting it made. Have they learned nothing from their WOLFMAN complications?
